I do not use generative AI. I do use automated tools to check spelling, grammar, punctuation, and consistency in written materials. I do not use web or cloud services that sell access to content to train AI models. I am happy to edit clients’ AI-generated materials, except when working with students whose programs do not allow it.

Your Privacy

If you subscribe to my website, I use your email address only to contact you about new content I’ve posted. I don’t share the email addresses. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link in an email from my site or by emailing “unsubscribe” to karen [at] karenlowry [dot] ca.

If you are a client, I get information from you to provide my services. I keep notes on our conversations and copies of our electronic communication. I will not share your information with anyone without your express permission except as related to paying my income tax or in other (very) rare situations where disclosing it is required by law. After I’ve been paid for a completed project, I delete materials other than communications and tax records.

Occasionally, I ask clients if I may use their information for testimonials, marketing information, or use in my blog. Agreeing to this is completely voluntary.

I don’t use social media much, but you can find me on Mastodon from time to time (@karenlowry@mastodon.social). I don’t share client information on social media without prior express consent.

I store information electronically. My computer and phone are encrypted and no one else has my passwords. I occasionally use one trusted subcontractor for proofreading who has access to specific materials for editing but no access to clients’ contact or business information.

I use MS Teams or Zoom for most meetings and I do not record them unless asked to by a client. If you are sharing highly sensitive information with me, where email or texting are not secure enough, I’m happy to use whatever secure system suits you best. My email and website comments are through Web Hosting Canada, and a trusted web developer accesses my website information when needed to provide technical support. You have a right to know what information I have about you, so please ask me if you want me to provide you with details.

Accessibility

I expect my services to be equally accessible to all people. I am familiar with assistive devices and alternate methods of communication, and I will adapt to best meet each individual’s needs. Please include anyone you want to join you in our virtual meetings.
